Description

Gem 1857-S Spiked Shield Twenty
Ex:
S.S. Central America

1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS65 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America. SSCA 4028. A gorgeous gold-label Gem recovered from the famous wreck, a coin struck earlier in the year and loaded onto the ship as part of bulk coinage for the financial system. Like many of its fellows, this piece shows remarkably few ill effects from its dramatic history. Pale yellow-gold inner color and more orange rims are in line with the S.S. Central America "look." Both sides show a handful of small, scattered marks overall, though a longer abrasion at the back of Liberty's drawn hair precludes a finer designation. Comes with faux-book case, certificate of authenticity, and outer box, as well as a hardcover edition of America's Lost Treasure.(Registry values: P2)
