1858-O $20 AU55 NGC. Winter-3....
Description
1858-O Twenty Dollar, AU55
Very Scarce New Orleans Mint Issue
1858-O $20 AU55 NGC. Winter-3. There were four die varieties
used to strike 1858-O, with Winter-3 having a die lump inside of E
in AMERICA. With a moderate mintage of 35,250 coins, the Liberty
Head double eagle gold struck at the New Orleans branch mint in
1858 is a scarce coin in surviving population, becoming very scarce
in About Uncirculated grades. Intense demand from collectors have
increased values of New Orleans Mint double eagles in recent years.
This is a lovely example, with the typical greenish-gold coloration
that is quite attractive. The strike is also consistent with the
issue, with weakness in stars 1 through 4 and the opposite reverse
lettering, although there is good detail in the portrait and eagle
feathers. Satiny luster is found in protected areas of the design.
Lightly abraded on both sides, with marks seen on the portrait and
shield, but the overall presentation is nice for a New Orleans Mint
twenty.(Registry values: N2998)From The Brittany Legacy Collection, Part I.
