Description
1858-S Liberty Head Twenty, AU58
Rare in Higher Grades
1858-S $20 AU58 NGC. The 1858-S double eagle has a large
reported mintage of 846,710 pieces, but the issue was released into
circulation and few examples were saved. The present coin is an
admirable near-Mint survivor, with pleasing greenish-gold color and
bright mint luster. A number of minor abrasions can be seen on both
sides, none individually distracting. Attractive AU examples of
this date are an appropriate choice for most collectors, as only 26
coins have been certified in higher numeric grades by NGC and PCGS
combined (6/10).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2699, PCGS# 8925, GSID# 9894)
