Description
1858-S Liberty Double Eagle, MS61
Few Finer Pieces Known
1858-S $20 MS61 NGC. CAC. Although the 1858-S was struck a
year after the S.S. Central America maritime disaster, some
examples were pulled from the S.S. Republic shipwreck (68
examples were reported). The origin of this MS61 example is
unknown, but it matters little since fewer than a dozen pieces are
certified any finer. The lightly abraded and frosty, sun-gold
surfaces are highly lustrous and attractive. CAC endorsement
provides an important assurance of quality. Census: 22 in 61 (2 in
61+), 2 finer. CAC: 5 in 61, 2 finer (5/24).(Registry values: N4719)From The Avraham Collection.
