Description
1858-S Twenty Dollar, MS61
Underappreciated S-Mint Issue
1858-S $20 MS61 NGC. Unlike the 1856-S and '57-S, the 1858-S
double eagle does not claim a large survivorship as a result of
shipwreck discoveries. This well-circulated issue is rarely offered
in any Mint State grade, and only a few such pieces are finer than
the present MS61 coin. The piece offered here is exceptional for
the grade. It is well-struck and fully lustrous, showing warm
peach-gold and pale rose hues over each side. Grade-limiting
abrasions appear in the form of light handling marks and are barely
noticed by the unaided eye. Census: 17 in 61, 3 finer (11/18).From The Coco Collection. (Registry values: N4719)
