Description
1858-S Twenty Dollar, MS61
Only One Coin Finer at PCGS
1858-S $20 MS61 PCGS. The 1858-S Liberty double eagle was
produced in large quantities, with a reported mintage of 846,710
pieces. The issue circulated heavily during the 19th century, and
most examples seen today are in lower grades, with abraded
surfaces. In the words of Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, "Very few
examples were saved, and in Mint State this issue is very
rare."The present coin is a well-detailed MS61 example, with vivid green and orange-gold surfaces. A number of minor contact marks are scattered about each side, none worthy of individual mention. Original mint luster remains vibrant in sheltered areas. Population: 10 in 61, 1 finer (5/11).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2699, PCGS# 8925, Greysheet# 9894)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
