Mint State Rarity

1858-S $20 MS61 PCGS. Ex: The Fairmont Collection. Unlike the 1857-S, the 1858-S double eagle is rare in Uncirculated condition, not benefiting from the discovery of shipwreck treasures. This piece displays peach-gold and rose-tinted luster in the fields, with greenish-gold patina where abrasions are the heaviest. Moderate abrasions on each side are typical of the grade. Few finer 1858-S double eagles are known. Population: 18 in 61, 4 finer (9/19).(Registry values: N4719)
