Description
1859 Liberty Twenty, AU53
Low Mintage, Low Survival
1859 $20 AU53 PCGS. The 1859 Philadelphia double eagle
mintage was low -- only 43,597 pieces were struck -- and few
examples survive at the About Uncirculated level or finer. Less
than a handful of shipwreck recoveries are known including two
About Uncirculated pieces from the S.S. Republic. This
lightly abraded AU53 example shows numerous light abrasions and
tiny marks over its well-struck surfaces. Gleaming orange accents
accompany medium-gold color that retains widespread mint luster.
