Description
1859-S Liberty Double Eagle, AU55
Ex: S.S. Republic
1859-S $20 AU55 NGC. Ex: S.S. Republic. The recovery
from the wreckage of the S.S. Republic only accounted for 67
double eagles from the 1859-S issue. Most pieces were in AU-level
grades, and only one Mint State 1859-S was certified. This
near-Mint Liberty twenty displays lively yellow-gold surfaces that
retain most of its original mint luster. Light wear blends the
numerous abrasions, and a radiant cartwheel effect delivers strong
eye appeal. Housed in an S.S. Republic-labeled
holder.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269C, PCGS# 8928, Greysheet# 9896)
