Description

Sharp Near-Mint 1860 Twenty Dollar

1860 $20 AU58 NGC. This yellow-gold piece displays just a whisper of wear that keeps it from a Mint State grade. The strike is boldly executed, and a loupe reveals only scattered, light abrasions. The recovery of the S.S. Republic added about 100 coins to the certified population, some of them in MS64 or MS65, although the present piece gives no indication of its source one way or the other. NGC has certified 59 pieces finer (2/10).(Registry values: N991)
