Description
1860 Double Eagle, MS62
Mint State Type One
1860 $20 MS62 NGC. All Mint State Type One double eagles are
scarce and desirable, but especially so when significant bagmarks
and abrasions are nowhere to be seen on smooth, attractive surfaces
such as this coin possesses. Although nearly 100 examples of this
Philadelphia date were salvaged from the S.S. Republic, MS62
or finer representatives remain rare. This radiant twenty is
apricot-gold with cartwheel mint luster. The portrait is unmarked,
with the surrounding fields pleasing and unabraded. A bold strike
completes the appeal. Census: 11 in 62 (2 in 62+), 6 finer
(1/14).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269D, PCGS# 8929, Greysheet# 9796)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
