Description
Well Struck 1860-S Double Eagle, AU58
1860-S $20 AU58 NGC. The appealing greenish-gold surfaces are remarkably free of abrasions for a pre-Civil War S-mint double eagle. Scrutiny under a glass does reveals a few grade-consistent surface impairments, but only a small dig on Liberty's neck requires singular mention. Much luster remains, and the strike is impressively robust. NGC has graded only 22 examples finer (8/07).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269F, PCGS# 8931, GSID# 9898)
