Description
1860-S Double Eagle, MS61
Scarce Issue in Uncirculated Grades
1860-S $20 MS61 PCGS. Even though there were 18 examples
salvaged from the S.S. Brother Jonathan, those pieces graded
between XF40 and AU50. A couple of dozen Uncirculated pieces are
known, but the 1860-S is infrequently offered at public auction.
This MS61 has lovely, frosted mint luster and rich variegated
reddish-gold and yellow-gold patina. While there are numerous small
abrasions over each side, none are large or worthy of individual
mention. The strike details are somewhat irregular with complete
star definition on the obverse, but somewhat weak detailing on
Liberty's hair and the oval of stars on the reverse.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269F, PCGS# 8931, Greysheet# 9898)
