    1861-O Double Eagle, XF Details
    Important New Orleans Date

1861-O $20 -- Damaged, Improperly Cleaned -- NCS. XF Details. Variety 1. As is the case with the 1861-O half dollar, the 1861-O double eagle was struck under three different authorities: the Federal government, the State of Louisiana, and the Confederacy. Only a single die pair was used to strike a total of 17,741 pieces. The base of the date is weak on a majority of examples, including the present coin, due to a lapped obverse die. The olive-gold surfaces are hairlined. The obverse is glossy and displays scattered small abrasions.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2015), lot 6418.

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
