1862-S $20 AU58 NGC. Ex: S.S. Republic. The 86 in the date is lightly repunched. This well struck representative has luster across the open fields, and no consequential marks are present. The Civil War affected the West to a much lesser extent than the North or South. By 1862, all silver and gold coins vanished except in the far West, where paper money was refused in commerce.(Registry values: N1793)
