    One of the Finest Known 1862-S Double Eagles, MS61

    1862-S $20 MS61 NGC. Of the 68 1862-S Double Eagles recovered from the S.S. Brother Jonathan most were AU, with only 10-15 Uncirculated pieces believed extant today. This piece has bright, satiny mint luster and is reasonably well struck with better hair detail than usually seen on this issue. Lightly abraded overall with a couple of milling marks on the cheek of Liberty being the only mentionable abrasions on either side. Population: 4 in 61, 1 finer (4/02).
