Description
Lustrous 1863-S Double Eagle, AU53
1863-S $20 AU53 NGC. Although the encapsulation does not note it, this coin has good odds of being a recovery from the S.S. Republic or the S.S. Brother Jonathan, which between them brought to light about 300 examples of this formerly rare issue in mostly AU condition. A few minor abrasions on Liberty's cheek likely determine the grade, but the orange-gold surfaces still display considerable luster, and even more eye appeal.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269R, PCGS# 8940, GSID# 9903)
