Not Sold Description
1864-S $20 AU53 NGC. Despite a relatively high mintage (more than 3/4 million pieces), the '64-S was once one of the scarcest Type I Liberty double eagles, judging by condition rarity. Since the recovery of the SS Brother Jonathan andSS Republic shipwrecks, this issue is much easier to locate in grades higher than XF. This piece is slightly bright, probably due to long-term immersion in sea water, but overall it is quite an attractive piece for the grade. (Registry values: N1793)
