Description

Delightful 1864-S Double Eagle, Choice AU

1864-S $20 AU55 NGC. Prior to the discoveries of the S.S. Brother Jonathan and the S.S. Republic, the 1864-S double eagle was difficult to locate in grades finer than XF. Nonetheless, fewer than 300 examples were found on these shipwrecks, and there is great demand for high grade examples. This charming orange-gold specimen has no mentionable marks and plenty of eye-catching luster. The hair is a little soft, as usual, but the rest of the details are crisp. An attractive representative that would make a great type coin.(Registry values: N1793)
