Description

Choice AU 1864-S Double Eagle

1864-S $20 AU55 NGC. Although the population numbers for this date have increased considerably due to the shipwreck hoards of the S.S. Brother Jonathan and the S.S. Republic, it must still be considered a relatively scarce Civil War-era issue from the San Francisco Mint. This Choice AU survivor is softly struck on the obverse, but shows relatively little high point wear. A number of small abrasions are apparent on each side.
