Description
Lustrous 1865 Twenty, MS61
1865 $20 MS61 PCGS. At one time, the 1865 double eagle was a major rarity in all grades. However, all that changed when 320 examples were found in the S.S. Republic treasure, including coins that grade up to MS65. A similar situation took place with the 1865-S double eagles when the S.S. Brother Jonathan treasure appeared on the market. This Mint State 1865 twenty has bright green-gold luster with olive patina on the obverse high points. It is nicely detailed and, despite myriad abrasions, has an excellent look. Population: 6 in 61, 17 finer (10/09).(Registry values: N4719)
