Attractive 1865-S Double Eagle, AU55

1865-S $20 AU55 PCGS. The 1865-S is another double eagle that was very rare in high grade before the finds of the S.S. Brother Jonathan and the S.S. Republic. Only Gem examples can now be considered rare. The peach-gold surfaces of this Choice AU example display luster in the recessed areas and show distributed minute marks. Generally well defined except for the usual weakness in some of the star centers and in portions of Liberty's hair.(Registry values: N1793)
