Description
1865-S Double Eagle, MS63
Ex: Brother Jonathan
1865-S $20 MS63 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Brother Jonathan 722.
Yellow-gold surfaces are highlighted with orange-gold, particularly
around the peripheries. A serpentine abrasion in the hair near star
10 is the only notable abrasion on either side. Slight softness
exists on the uppermost obverse hair curls, but the reverse
exhibits all details on both sides. In 1999, about 600 Mint State
examples of this issue were released as part of the S.S. Brother
Jonathan hoard. Prior to this release, the 1865-S was very rare
in high grades.Ex: S.S. Brother Jonathan Treasure Coins (Bowers and Merena, 5/1999), lot 662.(Registry values: N2998)
