Desirable MS64 1865-S Twenty
Ex: S.S. Brother Jonathan
1865-S $20 MS64 PCGS. A Choice 1865-S double eagle, one of
several dozen recovered from the S.S. Brother Jonathan,
inventory number 479. Like its fellows, this example has generally
bright luster in yellows ranging from wheat to canary. Alloy is
minor, mostly visible as small dots close to the rims. On the
reverse, a die crack runs from the second S in STATES through OF
and the first half of AMERICA. Wispy abrasions and grazes in the
left field and on Liberty's nose allow positive identification in
the auction catalog. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity
and a hardcover copy of the book The Treasure Ship S.S.
