1866 $20 Motto AU50 PCGS. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the reverse of the double eagle in 1866, introducing the popular Type Two design. Despite an adequate mintage of 698,775 pieces, the issue is definitely elusive in high grade today. This impressive AU example displays only light wear on the high points of the design elements and the lustrous orange-gold surfaces show the expected number of minor abrasions for the grade.(Registry values: N1793)
