    Description

    1866 Motto Twenty, AU58
    First-Year Type Two Design

1866 $20 Motto AU58 NGC. A substantial mintage of 698,775 double eagles represents the debut year for the Motto design, yet most survivors grade no better than Extremely Fine. Relatively few examples of the issue actually saw circulation, and those that did are normally well-worn. Uncirculated pieces are quite scarce as well, placing near-Mint State representatives such as the present AU58 coin in high demand. This piece displays nearly full mint luster throughout its rich-gold surfaces, and only light chatter from bag storage and transport. Census: 177 in 58 (2 in 58+, 2 in 58 ), 43 finer (7/17).(Registry values: N1793)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269X, PCGS# 8949)

    Weight: 33.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
