    1866 With Motto Twenty, MS61
First Year of the Type Two Design

1866 $20 Motto MS61 PCGS. Ex: PCGS 30th Anniversary label. This is an extremely important type issue for collectors who prefer the first year of issue for their collections. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added inside the oval of 13 stars over the eagle's head. The circulation strike mintage was 698,745 coins, but relatively few of those have survived in Mint State grades, and the average certified grade is just AU53. PCGS and NGC have certified just over 100 Mint State examples of this issue, and most of those grade just MS60 or MS61. Only 10 submissions at the two grading services are finer than this lustrous yellow-gold twenty that features a bold strike and outstanding surfaces with minimal marks on each side. Population: 35 in 61, 9 finer (3/17).(Registry values: N4719)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 269X, PCGS# 8949)

    Weight: 33.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
