1866 Double Eagle, MS61
Scarce Any Finer
1866 $20 MS61 PCGS. A Mint State example of this Double
Eagle issue displaying IN GOD WE TRUST for the first time, these
coins are popular with collectors. Mint State examples are rare,
especially beyond the MS61 grade. PCGS and NGC combined have graded
a few dozen at the MS61 level, with PCGS having awarded only four
MS62 grades and one MS64. NGC has awarded a higher grade to a
single example, an MS62. Though abraded as expected at this grade
level, the surfaces reveal luster. The reverse displays a number of
