Description

1866-S No Motto Twenty, AU55
Scarce Type One Issue

1866-S $20 No Motto AU55 NGC. The 1866-S represents a transitional year between the Type One and Type Two designs, with the No Motto variety being by far the scarcer of the two. This is also an issue that is considered a high-grade condition rarity, although it is still very scarce in lower grades, even VF and below. This piece has reddish-golden surfaces, and while not fully struck, the design elements are surrounded by light mint frost. Typically abraded with myriad small and medium contact marks on either side. Census: 24 in 55, 16 finer (12/18).
