Description
Conditionally Scarce and Lustrous 1868 Twenty, Choice AU
1868 $20 AU55 NGC. The 1868 twenty had a mintage of less than 100,000 pieces, and most of the survivors typically grade Very Fine to Extremely Fine, partly because very few pieces were saved by contemporary collectors. This explains the scarcity of this issue in high grades, and the 1868 is seldom seen in Mint State. Pleasing butter-yellow patina graces both sides of this well-detailed and lustrous piece. There are a number of bag marks on each side, as typically seen, but none merit individual mention. Census: 31 in 55, 49 finer (7/08).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A3, PCGS# 8953, GSID# 9805)
