Description
1868 Liberty Head Double Eagle, AU58
Scarce, Low-Mintage Date
1868 $20 AU58 PCGS Secure. From a small mintage of 98,575
pieces, and with a low survival rate, the 1868 Liberty Head double
eagle is a scarce date in all grades today. Mint State examples are
extremely rare, making this attractive near-Gem specimen an
appropriate choice for a high grade collection of Type One double
eagles. The present coin is sharply struck, with only slight wear
on the high points of the design. The surfaces are brightly
reflective, with light greenish-gold color. A scattering of minor
abrasions on both sides is consistent with the grade. Population:
24 in 58, 8 finer (7/10).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A3, PCGS# 8953, GSID# 9805)
