    Description

    1868-S Liberty Double Eagle, AU58
Elusive Type Two Issue in High Grade

1868-S $20 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Despite the more-than-adequate mintage of 837,500 pieces, the 1868-S Liberty double eagle is rare in high grade. Like most Type Two twenties, the 1868-S was extensively circulated at the time of issue, was not recovered from shipwrecks in large quantities, and was not heavily saved by contemporary collectors. This lightly worn near-Mint specimen offers still-lustrous orange-gold surfaces that show the expected number of minor contact marks for the grade. Population: 87 in 58 (2 in 58+), 35 finer. CAC: 26 in 58, 10 finer (7/17)..(Registry values: N1793)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A4, PCGS# 8954)

    Weight: 33.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
