1868-S $20 MS62 PCGS. The San Francisco Mint struck a substantial mintage of 837,500 Liberty double eagles in 1868, but the coins were released into circulation at the time of issue and few high-quality specimens were saved by contemporary collectors. As might be expected, the 1868-S is a condition rarity at the MS62 grade level, and finer coins are virtually unobtainable. This impressive MS62 specimen exhibits well-detailed design elements, with just a touch of softness on some star centers and Liberty's curls. The pleasing orange-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster and are lightly marked for the grade. Overall eye appeal is outstanding.
