Description

1869 Double Eagle, AU58
Partly Reflective Surfaces, CAC

1869 $20 AU58 NGC. CAC. This Philadelphia date remains scarce in About Uncirculated or finer grades despite an adequate 175,155-piece mintage. Many of those coins were melted or exported. While a few pieces have returned from foreign holdings over the past few decades, no great influx is evident in the population data for the Mint State grades. This orange-gold AU58 example displays minor field chatter and light abrasions over partially prooflike fields. High points show bits of circulation wear and bag grime, confirming the original orange-gold surfaces that display CAC endorsement. Census: 91 in 58, 15 finer. CAC: 14 in 58, 8 finer (10/24).(Registry values: N1793)
