Description
1869 Double Eagle, MS61
Strong Impression, Lively Luster
1869 $20 MS61 PCGS. Like most other double eagle issues from
this period, with the exception of certain large-scale shipwreck
recoveries, the 1869 is a major condition rarity in Mint State.
Uncirculated examples are tightly held, and the appearance of any
such coin at auction once a year or so typically draws attention.
This piece will undoubtedly catch the eye of series specialists.
Its radiant orange-gold surfaces appear minimally abraded for the
grade, though interested parties should not be surprised to find
myriad ticks and marks upon close inspection. The stars and neck
feathers are needle-sharp. Vibrant mint luster radiates from both
sides. Population: 21 in 61, 20 finer (7/24).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2018), lot 6403.(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A5, PCGS# 8955, Greysheet# 9806)
