    1869-S Twenty, MS63
    Only Five Finer at PCGS

1869-S $20 MS63 PCGS. Shimmering, minimally abraded surfaces offer outstanding sharpness for this Type Two S-mint, and both sides are coated in delicate reddish-orange patina. Although obtained with relative ease in the various AU grades, including AU58, the supply of 1869-S double eagles sees a sharp reduction once the Uncirculated level is reached. Only a handful of Select and better representatives are known to exist. This piece is tied with one other piece (an NGC coin) as second finest known. Allegedly eight coins have been certified in MS64 by PCGS and NGC, but surely several of those are resubmissions. Population: 2 in 63, 5 finer (3/19).(Registry values: N7079)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A6, PCGS# 8956)

    Weight: 33.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
