Description
Choice AU 1870 Liberty Head Twenty
Surprisingly Challenging Date
1870 $20 AU55 NGC. From a substantial mintage of 155,185
pieces, the 1870 Liberty Head double eagle is surprisingly elusive
in all grades. The present coin is an attractive Choice AU
specimen, with inviting greenish-gold surfaces, highlighted by
hints of rose. The strike shows a little softness on the central
design elements, but the peripheral devices are sharp. Much
original mint luster remains. Census: 49 in 55, 94 finer
(7/10).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A7, PCGS# 8957, GSID# 9807)
