Description
Desirable Uncirculated 1870 Double Eagle
1870 $20 MS61 PCGS. A reasonably struck piece with good luster and a clean reverse. The obverse bears numerous small marks and a moderate pinscratch aligned with the mouth. A very tough issue to locate in Mint State, not too surprising given the low mintage of 155,150 pieces. Gold coins were apparently not saved in quantity until 1873, since the 1873 Open 3 and 1873-S Closed 3 are significantly more available in Uncirculated grades than their earlier dated Type Two counterparts. Population: 5 in 61, 1 finer (11/05).From The Meads Point Collection.(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26A7, PCGS# 8957, Greysheet# 9807)
