Description

1870 Double Eagle, MS62
Rare Issue in Mint State
Lustrous and Attractive

1870 $20 MS62 NGC. The 1870 Liberty Head twenty dollar gold is a rare issue in Mint State grades. From an ample mintage of 155,150 coins, most extensively circulated in commerce and are found in mid-circulated grades. This excellent example is a pleasant exception, having expected minor bagmarks, but an overall great representative of the date. Attractive orange-gold toning with frosty luster over the surfaces. Fully struck with good definition of Miss Liberty's hair curls and well-formed obverse stars, along with crisp detail on reverse design elements including eagle feathers and shield lines. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a lovely Uncirculated 1870 double eagle. NGC Census: 15 in 62 (1 in 62+), 4 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N7079)
