Description

1871-CC Double Eagle, VF30 CAC
Challenging Early Issue

1871-CC $20 VF30 NGC. CAC. Winter 1-A. The second-year Carson City double eagle production was more generous than the introductory 1870-CC, but only 17,387 examples were struck, and all went into the Old West economy. Only a handful of Mint State pieces are known. Among double eagles, the mintage is third-lowest from the facility, after the 1870-CC and 1891-CC. The present midgrade representative displays reddish luster in protected areas, an indication of the coin's originality. The wings display considerable plumage detail, and no marks are of singular importance.(Registry values: N991)
