1871-CC $20 XF40 PCGS. As the second rarest Carson City
double eagle, the 1871-CC is always in demand by collectors of this
popular series. Only 17,387 pieces were produced, and it is
reliably estimated that fewer than 150 coins survive in all grades.
Carson City gold is a highly popular collecting specialty; examples
are always in demand.
Scarce Early Carson City Issue
The present smooth yellow-gold example represents a median grade for the issue. Traces of luster are still visible in protected areas around the devices, and the surfaces are entirely free of consequential marks.
