Description
1871-S Double Eagle, MS61
Lustrous and Pleasing
1871-S $20 MS61 PCGS. Although the 1871-S double eagle
mintage nears the 1 million coin mark, typical survivors are
usually circulated. Most examples grade XF or less. About
Uncirculated pieces are scarce to one extent or another, and often
heavily bagmarked. The issue's average grade is AU53. This lustrous
MS61 example displays fewer scattered marks than often seen for
this San Francisco twenty. Orange-gold surfaces are partially
reflective and radiantly lustrous. Abrasions are tiny with a few
small scuffs on Liberty's cheek. PCGS has certified only 52 finer
examples (2/25).(Registry values: N2998)From The Warrior Mountain Collection, Part II.
