    MS62 1871-S Type Two Twenty
Rich Reddish-Gold Color, Two Finer at PCGS

1871-S $20 MS62 PCGS Secure. Like other S-mint Type Two double eagles of the late 1860s-early 1870s, the 1871-S twenty is usually seen well-circulated, while Mint State examples appear seldom, and anything at the Select level or higher is a major conditional rarity. This MS62 specimen is remarkably abrasion-free for the grade. The luster is a trifle on the thin side, but rich reddish-gold color and bright fields compensate. The strike is typical for a Type Two issue, somewhat soft on the obverse high points but stronger on the reverse. PCGS has seen 19 submissions in this grade, with only two finer (7/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26AC, PCGS# 8962)
