Description

Popular AU 1872-CC Double Eagle

1872-CC $20 AU50 NGC. Although Philadelphia and San Francisco combined to strike more than 1 million double eagles in 1872, Carson City had a much smaller production. Only 26,900 pieces were issued, an early indication that the facility would have problems attracting bullion depositors. This straw-gold example has ample luster and a good strike. Small marks are scattered, but none singularly distract.
