Description

Remarkable 1872-CC Double Eagle, About Uncirculated

1872-CC $20 AU50 PCGS. In A Guide Book of Double Eagle Gold Coins, Bowers (2004) writes: "The 1872-CC double eagle is a rarity in the context of the Carson City series. Most extant pieces are VF, others are EF, but only a few are AU or finer." This briefly circulated piece would make an outstanding representative of this elusive issue. Lovely apricot-gold patina embraces the lustrous and minimally marked surfaces. The centers are soft, as typical, but the rest of the details are crisp.(Registry values: N2998)
