Description
Near-Mint State 1872-CC Twenty
A Conditional Rarity
1872-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. This third-year double eagle issue
from the historic Carson City Mint is generally available for a
price but conditionally rare, as Mint State examples are all but
unobtainable. The Condition Census at PCGS is two MS60 pieces,
followed by more than two dozen examples in AU58 (6/10). As
expected for the grade on this piece, minor high-point wear appears
on Liberty's hair, but the obverse star centrils are still strong,
and the strike is bold overall. The pleasing orange-gold surfaces
radiate much original mint luster that remains. The light abrasions
on both sides are consistent with minor circulation.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26AE, PCGS# 8964, GSID# 9915)
