Description

1873-CC Liberty Twenty, AU55
Very Scarce in Higher Grades

1873-CC $20 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-A. Ex: Duquesne. The 1873-CC Liberty double eagle claims a smallish mintage of 22,410 pieces and experts believe the surviving population numbers no more than 400-500 examples in all grades. The 1873-CC was even more elusive before the 1990s, when a small number of specimens was discovered and entered the market place.

This attractive Choice AU double eagle exhibits sharply struck design elements, with just a touch of rub on the highest points of the devices. The vivid yellow and orange-gold surfaces are lightly abraded and show a few highlights of lilac. Vibrant mint luster adds to the unusually strong visual appeal.
