1873-CC $20 AU58 NGC. Variety 1-A. Although a few European hoard coins returned to collectors in the 1990s, the 1873-CC remains a scarce coin in AU58 or finer grades. Even at the low Uncirculated levels, bagmarks usually limit the eye appeal as well as the technical grade. This smooth and attractive near-Mint coin stands out among other examples of the issue. The surfaces are remarkably free of abrasions, while mint luster remains strong across both sides. Wear is limited to the high point curls and minor friction in the obverse fields.

Just 22,410 pieces were struck, less than a fifth of the more-available 1874-CC. The present coin displays appealing rich, satiny surfaces that command a premium among knowledgeable Carson City collectors regardless of the date. As an 1873-CC, it ranks among the finer AU twenties we have seen, and the coin is certain to require a strong bid to take it home.(Registry values: N2998)
