Description

1873-CC Double Eagle, Conditionally Scarce AU58

1873-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. Variety 2-A. Variety 2-A is identified by a misplaced date digit within the dentils beneath the space between the 73 in the date The 1873-CC double eagle claims a small mintage of 22,410 pieces. While the discovery of a number of small hoards during the 1990s has made the issue somewhat more available, it is still scarce in the About Uncirculated grade levels and very rare in Mint State. The latter are primarily MS60 to MS62 due to the issue possessing significant bagmarks.

The orange-gold surfaces of this near-Mint State specimen display occasional hints of red and retain a good amount of luster over both sides. The design elements are relatively well-impressed, including most of the star radials. Light circulation marks are visible on each side. Population: 47 in 58, 10 finer (11/13).(Registry values: N2998)
