Description

1873-S Double Eagle, MS62
CAC-Approved Closed 3 Coin

1873-S $20 Closed 3 MS62 NGC. CAC. The majority of Mint State 1873-S Closed 2 double eagles are foreign repatriates. While occasional examples started to appear stateside shortly after World War II, it was not until the 1990s when the majority of Uncirculated examples found their way onto the population reports. Most Mint State examples grade either MS60 or MS61, with a far lesser number of MS62 pieces available. Examples finer than MS62 are rarely seen. This CAC-endorsed coin is peppered with tiny marks, but there are no deep or individually notable abrasions. Radiant sun-gold color blooms from both the obverse and the reverse, with canary-yellow highlights and a sharp strike adding to the excellent eye appeal. NGC Census: 54 in 62 (2 in 62+), 4 finer. CAC: 22 in 62, 1 finer (1/25).(Registry values: N4719)
